Designforum led The ARC through a 3 month design process that enlisted the ARC community for knowledge, experience, and creativity. The process involved key stakeholders, ARC clients and families, ARC staff, and local therapy experts to assemble activities and spaces that will serve to develop and challenge the physical and mental disabilities of ARC clients.
As a result, the participants established a core value, set objectives, brainstormed activities, and even illustrated their ideas on maps of the park site. These ideas have been compiled into one park master plan that will be review by the ARC executive staff and board of directors.
The master plan is truly representative of the Core Value statement and is comprised mostly of ideas contributed by participants at the Vision Session. There are many themes that are highlighted in the park and one in particular stands out the most; It relates greatly to the development metamorphosis that occurs at the ARC. Development is fundamental to the success of the ARC, and development is fundamental to the park, and it’s organization. Caterpillar to Cocoon to Butterfly taking flight directly speaks to the changes that occur at the ARC. This theme must be apparent to visitors because it is so critical to the success of the park and the ARC.
