Designforum was charged with creating a unique public realm for the Springridge community to accentuate a master plan previously created by others. In addition to designing a custom fence and plantings throughout the community, an entrance park was created to serve as a gathering place for the residents and passers-by.
View corridors to a green located centrally within the park have been sited from key spots within the community to encourage spontaneous use. Serving as a focal point on the green, a gazebo structure is a shady spot to sit and observe or for use as a stage during special events. Large deciduous trees surrounding the green enclose the space similar to walls in a room. Benches have been placed to take advantage of views to interesting spaces and planting throughout the park and excess soil has been sculpted into an informal seating area for adults or a play element for children.
An arced stone signage wall has been located on a prominent corner of the park and entrance to Springridge. Serving as a point of reference and arrival to passers-by, the wall also provides a backdrop to a seating area within the park. Stone columns and wood rail fencing is utilized throughout the public realm, echoing the materials used on adjacent development sites.
